Day Two Closing Keynote

Innovation Starts with Empathy

Healthcare in an America is evolving at a rapid pace. Hospital systems, clinicians and even patients often gravitate to what’s newest and shiniest. But it’s important to remember that, in our industry especially, the best innovations begin with old-fashioned empathy for the patients, families and communities we serve daily. It’s the foundation of everything we do, and every step forward we take to make a difference in the world around us.  Sometimes, that empathy can be tested. Dr. Jeffery Cohen, president of Allegheny General Hospital, treated the man accused of killing 11 and injuring seven more at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue – the same congregation in which Dr. Cohen was married and his four children had their bar and bat mitzvahs. Hear directly from Dr. Cohen about how his character-driven leadership following the attack on his community inspired fellow Pittsburghers, and health professionals, worldwide.
